    Rooted In Resistance: Shotel Swordplay Workshop

    On March 30th 2024, Austin Warrior Arts will partner with the Long Center and the Center of Economic Growth and Development to teach a workshop on traditional swordplay from Ethiopia and Eritrea, focusing on the iconic Shotel sword. 

    Da’Mon Stith, president of HAMAA (Historical African Martial Arts Association), an organization dedicated to research, reconstruction and sharing of indigenous African martial arts, combat sports and warrior traditions, will be teaching a workshop on traditional swordplay, focusing on the Shotel a distinct and iconic sword featuring a curved double edged sabre-like blade used to hook around shields and was one of many different types of traditional arms used in the Battle of Adwa.

    The workshop will start promptly at 10:00 am and will end at 2:00 pm. Please bring water and wear loose comfortable clothing.

    Swords, shields and spears will be provided by our sponsor Street Forge Armoury.
